Beliefs -> BibleThe Bible consists of 66 books written between roughly 1500 BC and 90 AD. It is referenced by Book, Chapter, and Verse. So John 4:6 means the book of John, fourth chapter, sixth verse. The Old Testament consists of the first 39 books. It was written between about 1500 BC and 400 BC. This is the first part of the Christian Bible, but it is the entire Jewish Bible, known as the Tanakh. The Tanakh is an acronym of sorts, specifying the Torah, or Law, the Nevi'im, meaning Prophets, and the Ketuvim, meaning Writings. Jesus referred to it in Matthew 22:40, as the "Law and the Prophets." The New Testament consists of the second 27 books. It was written between about 40 AD and 90 AD. The writers all either knew or had met Jesus personally, or they knew one of his 12 apostles. The NT consists of:
